With that said there are motives for players to be optimistic from wangyue's blog

The players aren't certain what to take away from WOTLK Classic Gold the situation. On one part, the players are desperate to move on from the disappointment of Shadowlands and to return to Azeroth in its entirety. However considering the delay in the announcement of the expansion and the fact that alpha testing for Dragonflight is not yet underway on the game's public test realm (but it is expected to begin very soon) gamers are concerned about a release date in 2022 being too early. Therefore, a significant part of the community basically begging Blizzard to hold off Dragonflight, take its time to release the expansion sometime in early 2023 instead.

Sure, a less-than-six-month window for alpha test, beta  tests pre-patch (which usually lasts for several weeks), and expansion releases does appear like a the ideal time frame. But it's not an entirely realistic timeframe, as members of the community have suggested on Reddit.

In a blog post by WoW content creator MrGM broke down the amount of time between the time of testing alpha of previous expansions , and an expansion's release date. The range is between about 188 days, at the earliest and 281 days at the most recent. There are 192 days remaining in 2022 to compare. Another post by Reddit user Jeth84 looked at release dates for every WoW expansion prior to it and concludes that the event that Dragonflight arrives this year, it will be very much on schedule with a typical two-year gap between expansions.

In theory, Dragonflight's 2022 arrival would be in line with. However, it's worthwhile to keep an eye on the development issues Blizzard has faced the last several years that could possibly impacted the development of  buy WOTLK Gold Dragonflight, which includes a significant portion of the staff working from home due to COVID-19 and various problems (including employee walkouts and strikes) as a result of the various lawsuits and probes that have plagued Blizzard over the past 11 months.
