Sylvanas
Windrunner has been the central figure of the Battle for Azeroth and
Shadowlands expansions, and she’s in the middle of a long game of four
dimensional chess. While some World of Warcraft novels are about
bridging the gap between expansions and wrapping up certain stories,
Sylvanas will likely be closer to Arthas: Rise of the Lich King or
Illidan, in that it will be a character study. The book goes back to
Sylvanas’ early life and tracks her progression through Warcraft 3 and
early World of Warcraft, before sharing her current status and goals.
It’s
an interesting time for Sylvanas, as she is currently planned as the
final boss of the 9.1 raid, Sanctum of Domination. Players are currently
unsure what happens to Sylvanas after the fight — in recent history, we
haven’t been killing important lore characters too often. Instead, we
often injure or capture them, which means their story can continue in
later patches. This book may play into the raid, or take place after the
events of the fight. It’ll also likely iron out past discrepancies and
establish the canon timeline of Sylvanas’ plots and plans.
