The long-running Bayern Munich (GER) head coaching search is finally showing signs of concluding.
“Munich hope to finalize and announce the signing of Vincent Kompany by Wednesday (29),” Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg wrote on social media on Monday. The contract is until the summer of 2027.”
It looks like Munich's on-again, off-again managerial search is finally coming to a close after the club parted ways with Thomas Tuchel. The club announced in February that they would part ways with Tuchel after the season. Since then, the club has been in talks with a number of candidates to replace Tuchel, including Leverkusen head coach Xabi Alonso, Germany national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, and Austria national team coach Ralf Langnick, but all have failed. When the search for a successor stalled, the organization tried to convince Tuchel to stay on. However, negotiations failed to reach an agreement and the two sides parted ways after the season.
Munich's choice for the job was Kompany. After a long career at Manchester City, where he was a center back and captain, Kompany took charge of Anderlecht (Belgium) after retiring from the game, and has been Burnley's manager since 2022. He led Burnley to EPL promotion 스포츠토토 in the 202-2023 season, but the club was relegated again in 2023-2024, finishing in 18th place.
The news of Kompany's appointment has left Munich fans nervous. He hasn't managed a big club, hasn't coached big-name players, and hasn't really proven himself in the top flight. If Kompany's appointment is confirmed, Kim will be working with a legendary defender for the first time in his career. After a roller-coaster season that saw him dropped from the starting lineup at the end of the season, Kim was once touted as a “No. 1” candidate for release, but that has since quieted down. German media outlet TZ explained that Dayo Upamecano, who, like Kim, has missed a lot of chances, could be a good fit for Kompany's tactics, saying, “If he does leave, it will be one of Kim, Matthijs de Ligt or Eric Dier.” However, Kompany hasn't been appointed yet, so we can't be too sure. Kompany's tutelage could be of great benefit to Kim, who has shown that he will continue to compete in Munich.
