Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has taken a significant step towards empowering rural education with the launch of its innovative Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, 'Science on Wheels'. Designed to inspire curiosity and promote hands-on learning, the program is dedicated to transforming science education in rural government schools.
The initiative was officially launched by Shri Chacko M Jose, Executive Director of BPCL’s Bina Refinery, who flagged off the Mobile Science Van. This van is a state-of-the-art mobile classroom equipped with scientific models, tools, and experiments aimed at bringing the wonders of science directly to students' doorsteps.
Interactive Learning for Rural Students
In collaboration with the Agastya International Foundation, 'Science on Wheels' focuses on making science accessible and engaging for students in government middle and high schools, particularly those in rural areas. Starting from Class 6 onwards, the initiative enables children to explore science beyond the limitations of textbooks through practical, hands-on activities.
The Mobile Science Van is staffed by trained instructors who guide students through experiments and demonstrations, turning ordinary classrooms into vibrant hubs of learning. This approach aims to ignite curiosity, foster critical thinking, and inspire students to pursue education with a new level of enthusiasm.
BPCL’s Commitment to Education
Speaking at the launch, Shri Chacko M Jose emphasised BPCL’s dedication to nurturing the leaders of tomorrow. “Through initiatives like 'Science on Wheels,' we aim to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application. By taking science directly to students, we are not just educating young minds but also empowering them to build brighter futures,” he said.
BPCL’s efforts align with its broader vision to promote innovation and development in education, particularly in underprivileged communities. This initiative underscores the company’s commitment to creating a meaningful impact by leveraging science and technology for the greater good.
