Features of investing in Dow Jones from Tinoxe Cerrato's blog

The Dow Jones is not a stock, it's a calculation based on a weighted list of 30 stocks traded on the American stock exchanges. Most of them are NYSE stocks, but some, like Microsoft, are traded on NADSAQ.

What you can buy is a Dow Index fund, which is a mutual fund or ETF that buys the same stocks tracked by the DJIA in the same proportions.

The Dow tracks only 30 carefully-chosen stocks. The S&P tracks 500 of the largest companies on the stock exchange. A wider base should make for a more comprehensive average. The RoboMarkets Blog will tell you more about this and how to invest in dow jones.

The large companies are so large, the top 9 out of those 500 companies make up over 40% of the value of the S&P, so pick your poison.
