Diablo was designed to run on PC from haoxiuyun's blog

Diablo was designed to D2R Items run on PC when it came out in 2000. However, since the release of Diablo: Resurrected, the action-RPG iconic game will be making its way to consoles for the first time. As it turns out, Blizzard needed to put lots of effort into the game to ensure the experience for consoles lived up to its legendary status, but without changing the design of the game.

In a post on the blog exploring how the Diablo Resurrected team considered making the game playable on consoles, design director Robert Gallerani explained how decisions made about the game's playability on consoles focused "on the different players than the PC audience." Since many console players have more experience with Diablo on consoles, Diablo, Blizzard needed to make Diablo more accessible for console gamers.

One of the ways Diablo: Resurrected on consoles does this is by taking the lead from Diablo's playing book with regard to how it handles display and mapping abilities.

"In the very first Diablo game, a player was given two buttons: right and left mouse clicks," Gallerini writes. "To gain access to a variety of various abilities, players utilize hotkeys to quickly remap both of these buttons. When using a controller, this was set to not map, rather, to let buttons directly activate the abilities. At that point, we display these capabilities in a similar manner to Diablo as a tray in the lower part on the lower part of the HUD."

When it comes to moving, Diablo on consoles controls very differently from its PC counterpart. On PC gamers click one of the destinations, and the game effectively takes the character's position to that spot. On consoles, Blizzard wanted players to buy diablo 2 resurrected items control their character's movements via the thumbstick.
