Dungeons had monsters and traps to keep people OUT. Either people didn't want grave robbers stealing from them, or territorial/evil beings appropriated the dungeons to their own designs. There usually isn't a "feeding off heroic souls" kind of deal going on. That can of course vary depending on

I'd actually say that dungeons have a lot more sensical reasons for normal, desperate people to go into a dungeon. It can make you a lot of money. There doesn't need to be heroics or bravery involved.
