Here
are some tips to help you improve your spoken English:
1.
Understand why you want to learn English in the first place.
Unless
you're extremely motivated, it's difficult to put in the hours day in and day
out over a lengthy period of time with multiple dry spells of little
advancement.
What
can you do to stay motivated to improve your spoken English?
By
determining the 'why' of your endeavour.
Whatever
it is, keep reminding yourself how improving your language skills will enhance
your life. On the other hand, you can remind yourself how being average would
negatively impact your life. This will keep you going through the difficult
moments, of which there will be many.
2. If
you have a clear goal in mind, use Task-Based Learning.
Task-based
language learning is the process of learning a language with the purpose of
completing a specific task.
If you
wish to accelerate your learning, you undoubtedly have a reason, a goal in
mind. For the most part, it's a near-term job interview. It could be an
overseas trip for some, ranging from an exchange programme to a simple vacation.
If
you're participating in an exchange programme, you can focus on icebreaker
questions and striking up a discussion with strangers.
Although
spoken English can cover a lot of ground, if you're short on time, focusing
will help you get more bang for your buck.

3. Make
a lot of noise
You
can't learn to swim without first diving into the water.
Wouldn't
dedicate disproportionately more time to swimming than to reading a swimming
handbook or watching other swimmers in the water help you learn to swim faster?
Swimming
is a skill that is primarily learned via practice.
Though
not identical, speaking is a skill that can be learned more quickly by actually
doing it. You can read and listen for hours every day, but you won't get
anywhere if you don't communicate. Speaking has the greatest impact on your
ability to communicate.
4.
Recognize your weak points and work on them diligently.
If you
address your largest problems first, your speaking abilities will improve
quickly as well.
Do you
find it difficult to speak up? Do you find it difficult to talk in front of
others? Do you find yourself stumbling because the right words don't come to
mind when you're speaking? Do you come to a halt because you don't have
anything more to say? Do you speak with an exceptionally high quantity of
filler words and sounds?
Anything
might be the case. The important thing is to be conscious of your weak spots
and work on them diligently. That is exactly what the Indian cricket team has
done.
5.
Dedicate more time to it. Give it further thought.
You
must shed more sweat and tears if you want to improve quickly. Period.
Give
yourself as much time as possible to work on your spoken English. However,
astronomical hours (6-8 or more) may be difficult to achieve because learning
new things, unlike doing repeated chores, is tiring on our brains, and cramming
too much into a short period of time may hinder learning.
Experiment
until you find the sweet spot (of hours).

Make
sure you devote those hours on a daily basis, regardless of the number of
hours. Some people only practice on weekends, which is less successful than
practicing every day. You may commit less time to weekdays depending on your
schedule, but don't completely ignore them.
