The company, owned by Chinese electric scooter manufacturer, Ninebot, is looking to launch its new line of electric scooters at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA, next week. These products are composed of a moped, a scooter, and a sportbike.
The sport bike (pictured above) is called the Apex Concept. Segway has revealed very little about it. Segway calls it a “super scooter,” because of the fact that it can reach a claimed top speed of 200 km/h and can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in just 2.9 seconds. Segway has even released a video showing a prototype running around on a race track.
Rumors circulating around the internet have suggested that the Apex Concept is using a Yamaha R6 or R3 platform. However, this may very be unlikely as Yamaha has already agreed to collaborate with another electric scooter maker, Gogoro. There are currently no plans for an electric sport bike.Besides the sport bike, there is also the eMoped. This, on the other hand, is intended for urban areas with a top speed of 25 km/h. It has two variants with a range of 35-km or 85-km respectively.

New World launches for PC on August 31, and its closed beta begins tomorrow (July 20). During a recent preview event, I played through the early portion of the game, learning its core mechanics and getting an introduction to its rugged fantasy world.The MMO starts you on a shore after you find yourself shipwrecked. Here, you learn the basics. Unlike most games of this kind, New World has a focus on action. You don’t automatically target enemies. You have to position yourself so that you sword swings connect, and you need to block at the right time to avoid taking too much damage. It feels more like The Elder Scrolls and less like World of Warcraft.
You also learn that your weapon determines your character’s class. If you’re holding a staff, you’re a magic user. If you have a sword and shield, you have a mix of offensive and defensive abilities. Each weapon also has its own skill tree, and you can earn points for these by playing as those specialization. These skill trees can give you passive stat bonuses or new abilities.
Your character also levels up independently of your weapon proficiencies. When you gain a level, you can increase your stats. This will make you better with certain weapons. More points in dexterity will make you stronger with bows, for example. At first this worried me, since the system seemed likely to force players to stick with a certain playstyle. But Amazon Games told me that you can refund your points for free until a certain level, and then it costs just a bit of gold.
Soon after this introductory sequence, New World spirited me off to the game’s first settlement. Here I learned the importance of crafting. Most MMOs have crafting, but it’s often an optional and insignificant part of the experience. Here, it looks to be major focus. Many of the early quests send you out to gather resources like timber and stone. Then you return to town and refine them weapons or other materials.
The combat and mechanics are interesting. I’m a bit more worried about the aesthetics. New World goes for a more realistic, fantasy vibe. It can be a bit dark and dingy for my taste. Performance was also an issue. I’m not a huge specs guy, but I’m able to get other MMOs to run at a smooth 60 fps on my PC. But I was struggling to get New World run that well, even when I lowered the graphics settings. The frames would take an especially big dive when I was in town.
But when it comes to MMOs, I’m mostly concerned about the gameplay, and New World shows promise. Even at low levels, fighting can be fun, since you have to worry about aiming your attacks and timing your blocks. In other MMOs, those early levels can be a slog where you’re just hitting the same three buttons over and over. It’s nice to have combat feel interesting right from the start.
I’m also curious about how the game’s social features work. At the start of any MMO, it’s impossible to get a sense for any of that. Sure, I was technically in a party with other players, but we were just running around doing our own things, occasionally running into each other and maybe helping take down a wolf together. I wonder just how much the full game will encourage (or require you) to adventure with others.

The newest massively hyped MMORPG to hit the scene, New World is the latest offering from Amazon Games. Despite the lack of successful titles from Amazon's video game department so far, New World jumped to the top of Steam's charts and, after a rocky Beta, has garnered a decent amount of praise.
Of course, there are still some issues with New World, including huge wait times to get into a server. While this will no doubt be addressed in time, more insidious, player-created troubles are also making their way into the MMORPG. Perhaps foremost among these are bots, which are hogging resource farming points.
Bots are not an unfamiliar problem to MMORPG players, beocming increasingly prominent as they become easier to program. While no doubt more complicated than bots created for other purposes, MMORPG bots fulfill the same function: perform a simple task over and over again. In this case, New World's bots are made to farm resources, and for most of them, that seems to revolve around hunting rare fish. Bots can tell if a fish is rare on cast, and if not, they pull the line back right away. It's a problem, and like other problems New World players want solved, it's making the game harder to play.
However, players are not waiting for developers to step in: some have already begun solving the problem themselves by channeling Fansy the Bard. Long ago, in EverQuest, Fansy the bard learned how to defeat his enemies by luring hordes of Sand Giants to them. Players are channeling that spirit now by luring enemy mobs, including boars, over to the fishing bots and letting the wildlife kill them off. The bots are only made to fish, so they don't resist. Like other player created solutions in New World it's a bit rough, but it works.
While it is amusing to see wildlife slowly killing unresisting bots, it is not a full solution. Players already have suggestions for New World that will hopefully get Amazon's ear, and if enough people raise their voices, more direct measures may be taken against the bots.
It's hardly surprising that cheating like this has cropped up in New World already, considering its massive release and current player count. Jeff Bezos recently commented on New World's success, but the bots escaped mention. It's a shame too, because once an MMORPG is considered worth botting, that may well be a measurable metric of success as well.

There is plenty of changes coming to the New World Open beta via these patch notes. The most important thing is the patch addresses some of the outrages that players and streamers alike had through the two weeks closed beta.
One example is PvP Scaling, which is now much harder for lower levels players to kill a higher level player. It rewards the higher level player for being higher level, but skill will still remain an important factor.
The New World Open Beta patch notes say: “PVP scaling has been reduced. The level difference will matter more in your encounters meaning that it will take more hits for a lower level player to kill a higher level player and less hits for a higher level player to kill a lower level player.”It became very apparent very quickly that some weapons were so much stronger than others. Some weapons in the New World Closed Beta were either bugged, causing them to do a lot more than they should, or were outright broken. The Fortify buffs are the biggest nerfs, while some weapons have some annoying stagger mechanics moved to create counterplay. In World of Warcraft, endgame raids have multiple levels of difficulty, with the higher Heroic and Mythic difficulty taking large amounts of coordination, practice, and commitment from multiple people, as well as time and gold for gear and consumable items. Some players lack the time, resources, or interest to put towards clearing these difficult challenges, but still want to experience the fights, see hidden stories, or collect rare items or gear that are only available in those difficulties.
Raid boosting has been a hot subject for as long as World of Warcraft has existed. This created a direct link between real and in-game currency, legalizing real money trading, a practice otherwise against World of Warcraft’s Terms of Service.
It is not hard to see how people have taken poorly to this raid boosting revelation. After all, since Ybarra’s guild, Denial of Service, sells Heroic Sanctum of Domination runs for just under 400,000 gold, a player could purchase this service by handing Blizzard $40 only to then hand the gold right back to one of its highest-ranking World of Warcraft developers. Worse yet, by participating in raid boosting, Mike Ybarra has essentially endorsed the practice itself, which could encourage more people to participate on both ends of the controversial transaction.
However, some people are happy to see someone at Blizzard engaging in raid boosting in World of Warcraft. These players, mostly high-end raiders, take this as proof some Blizzard devs play their own game, and by immersing themselves in the struggles of endgame raiders, they may eventually see positive changes implemented for them in the future. Regardless of one’s viewpoint on the matter, one has to wonder why Mike Ybarro would draw this kind of attention while Blizzard is mired in bad press from this summer’s lawsuits.

The primary conflict in World of Warcraft has always revolved around the drama between the Alliance and the Horde–the two opposing playable factions in the game. In the interview, Hazzikostas touched on a multitude of topics, from culture both in the game and at Blizzard, and on the future of World of Warcraft in light of the changes it is undergoing in response to the lawsuits filed against it. In the earliest alpha builds of World of Warcraft, Blizzard had planned to allow members of both factions to mingle and play with each other if a character built up a positive reputation with the opposing faction. Unfortunately, this was removed before release, opting to make cross-faction play all but impossible. Players on opposing factions cannot even communicate with one another without the use of a special Elixir of Tongues item, unless they are members of the few opposing races who share a language like Horde Blood Elves and Alliance Void Elves, or Pandaren who joined opposite sides.
The idea of cross-faction gameplay and raiding would make most World of Warcraft players happy. At this point, the story of World of Warcraft has moved beyond the faction war. On a logistical level, some servers have terribly imbalanced populations between Alliance and Horde populations, with the worst of them nearing a 25% to 75% split. Allowing players to more readily cross the faction line would fix this faction imbalance by effectively doubling the player population, which would fix the in-game economy and make finding parties easier.
On the other hand, some players would rather see the factions remain separate. Many World of Warcraft fans have a strong sense of pride in their World of Warcraft faction, and fear removing the wall between them might dilute their identity and complicate World PvP, a popular staple of the game since its release. However, eroding the boundary between factions may help make the opposing faction seem less like faceless enemies, which could help curb toxicity and improve the community–a goal World of Warcraft has been focusing on recently. Posted on the official World of Warcraft YouTube channel, presumably to stay ahead of datamining, Blizzard Entertainment has unveiled a pre-rendered story cinematic under the name "Shattered Legacies" featuring Sylvanas Windrunner, a character whose fate and overall plotline has been the subject of heated debate ever since the launch of the previous expansion, Battle for Azeroth.
The cutscene focuses on the state of Sylvanas' recently reunited, yet fragmented soul – a concept introduced in Shadowlands through Warcraft 3 icon Uther Lightbringer – as he informs Highlord Bolvar Fordragon and the former prisoners of Torghast that the Jailer has locked Sylvanas in a state of endlessly reliving her nightmares and trauma, seemingly unable to wake up.
The characters gathered around her unconscious body argue on whether the Banshee Queen even deserves to wake up, claiming that her actions are unforgivable, yet ultimately, a decision is made to attempt to wake the wayward Windrunner sister by Uther reaching out with the scar he and Sylvanas both share through Frostmourne, the blade that felled them.
After conversing with the former paladin mentor of Arthas Menethil, Sylvanas is presented with a choice – to doom the Warcraft universe through inaction or to face her past choices and help free Anduin from the Jailer's domination magic. As she confronts her monstrous self, the two personalities merge, and in a musical parallel to the Legion scene where she is made Warchief of the Horde, the former Banshee Queen wakes – her eyes now blue.
The recent character arc of Sylvanas Windrunner has left longtime players of the game conflicted, who feel that the redemption story she has been thrust upon is forced, and that the character is undeserving of redemption, especially after the numerous atrocities, war crimes, and acts of genocide she has gleefully committed in Battle for Azeroth.
Coupled with all the other recent leaks regarding "Eternity's End", signs seem to point towards Sylvanas reclaiming her persona of Ranger General and embarking on a search for Nathanos, the man she loves, as his soul still remains lost somewhere in the deepest hells of the Maw.

It must be said first that I say this absent any discussions about the quality of the game (or lack thereof). I actually like the core content of Shadowlands and the core gameplay of WoW, divided off from the negative ways in which systems and borrowed power intersect with that. Over the last decade (yes, it has been that long), WoW has been declining as the top-dog MMO. If anything, it says more about the genre as a whole that it is only now that WoW is clearly not number one, but here we are. From the game’s peak in early Cataclysm, public sentiment about World of Warcraft has steadily gone down with brief rebounds, each of which fails to meet any previous high watermarks for the game. At this point, WoW has failed to have the expected rebound for an odd-numbered expansion, and has instead continued a downward trajectory in public sentiment.
I just recently remarked on this issue in my post about the cadence of content updates in WoW, but now, 1 week out from the next patch, it is worth discussing here again.
WoW as a game has always had content patches whenever the development team damn well pleases. This alone isn’t bad, mind you – if you ask 100 players if they’re willing to wait for high-quality content, I think all 100 would say yes. The thing that dogs the WoW team today is simple – there’s a sliding scale for how much and how high of quality we expect content to be and how long we’re willing to wait for it. If you only deliver a content drop every 8-10 months but that content is primo, solid, and can last that long without artificial timegates or bullshit, it can still be a win. When you go that long and drop inferior content, stuff that is single-use and consumed quickly, or just don’t drop that much – well, the scale tips to the negative quickly.
Blizzard’s problem right now is that WoW patches are all negative on these factors – infrequent, with long gaps between releases, with small amounts of content that are consumed quickly after overcoming a number of artificial time gates, and then with too long to wait until the next update. Using myself (not an average player, to be clear) as an example, here’s my 9.1. The patch came out on June 28th 2021, and the big seasonal refresh was the next week on July 6th 2021. On July 17th 2021, I had already done Keystone Master for Season 2, marking me as largely “done” with dungeons, as anything past that point was simply to run up the numbers – better gear, higher rating for epeen, maybe clearing +20s for teleports, and helping friends/guildies. I finished the normal raid upon rejoining my guild in August, getting my normal Sylvanas kill on 8/18/2021. We ground through Heroic for about a month, with me getting a Sylvanas kill and Ahead of the Curve via a PUG on 9/13/2021. The story of Korthia and 9.1 resolved after weeks of artificial time gates, and I completed it on 8/21/2021. My guild completed the Glory of the Dominant Raider meta achievement on 10/7/2021, and that marked what was, for me, the effective end of the content. 3 months of stuff.
The problem now, then, is that the patch is still ongoing, and even the upcoming 9.1.5, solid QoL changes and all, offers no real “new” content. The first new thing since the patch content rollout of 9.1 is Legion Timewalking, with a two week event coming on 12/7/2021 – 5 months into the 9.1 season. This content is, itself, recycled, and thus not really new, although I will give Blizzard credit for Timeworn Keystones and for the return of the Mage Tower. That means that we are likely going at least 7 or 8 months with nothing truly new added to the game, if not perhaps (and likely) even longer. My guess is 9 months minimum, and I say that with no pleasure.
These gaps and delays are problematic because each patch that fails to hold interest for long enough gives more players a chance to dip out of the game. 9.0 lasted nearly 8 months, but that didn’t quite hit the same because the new expansion smell was still there and a lot of people were still completing various goals – alts, grinding through endgame content, etc. 9.1’s long draught sucks more because it is both longer and people generally have less to do – having had so long to meet early expansion goals, all there was to focus on in 9.1 was any longer-term expansion goals and the content on offer, which was about…3 months worth. I would use that for even the more casual players because the LFR raid was complete in August, as was the story campaign, and all that was left past that was for players to individually determine what they wanted to repeat content for – transmog looks, gear upgrades, etc. Most players I know, across the board, are at a point now in 9.1 where they’ve done what they want – I have a few guildies chasing the +20 grind in Mythic Plus for teleports, but that is 3 people out of ~36. Most of the rest simply log on for raid if at all.
