Thin Tiles for Floors and Walls

Tile trends from Coverings 2014 continue with thin tiles for floors and walls. Everyone likes to be thinner, so why not make our walls and floors skinny, too!Get more news about Thin Porcelain Tile, you can vist our website!

This is the fourth article in the series about tile trends from Coverings 2014 which took place April 29 through May 2, 2014 in the Las Vegas Convention Center. I started with Patchwork Tile, then Hexagon Tile Trends, 9 Glass Mosaic Tile Trends from Coverings 2014 and now we are going to explore thin tile for floors and walls.
I know what you are thinking; if the tile is thin, is it cheap or brittle. Well that is not the case.

You'll find plenty of articles written about this latest trend in tile production. For example, the April 2014 issue of Floor Trends features an article by Matthew Spieler titled Thinner Tiles Create More Options Without Sacrificing Performance which discusses thin tile in big sizes (see photo above)!

Thin tile has been around for a few years now and is just starting to trend in the United States. What's particularly interesting about thin tile is that it can be installed over existing floor and wall tiles. As Floor Trends states,
The benefit in commercial tile installations is that thin tile weighs less than regular tile which means less weight in and on a building. The large format thin tiles can be used in elevators, main floors and bathrooms to tile over large areas. What a plus for the building industry! Not only do these thinner tiles create less weight on the structures, but installers will be shocked at the ease of handling these thinner and lighter tiles. The durability remains the same and the products are tested with industry standards to meet code requirements.

On the residential side, thin tiles are now being provided in sizes and formats that will work for homes as well. You'll find the wood plank look in thin tile (see image below) as well as some of the more popular residential sizes such as 20x40 and 24x24.

What's interesting is that once the tiles are laid on the floor or wall you will not know how thick or thin they are. The installer, though, will remember how heavy or light they are to install.
During the visit, we viewed the new thin porcelain tiles presented in large panels. As you can see in the image at the top of the article, these thin tiles are very large! Imagine looking up at these large panels and seeing an entire wall or floor with minimal grouting. Thin tiles are strong, too; some are even supported with a mesh backing for added strength.

The image above shows you how large thin tile panels are shipped on a large pallet in a crate for protection.I was surprised at how light the small format thin tiles were: I was able to pick up a box of 32x32 thin tiles with no problem.

The best part of the thin tile demonstration I observed was the ability to take a straight edge and a utility knife, score the thin tile piece and then snap it with both hands to make a cut. The material was surprisingly easy to handle although it would take some mastery to make intricate cuts.To wrap thin tile around a column, you would simply score the piece; the mesh backing will hold it in place and you then wrap the piece around the column.
These large panels and smaller format thin tiles really caught my eye. We hear all the time how heavy larger format tiles are and this now takes that element out of the equation. Not to mention that being able to install over existing floors and walls is a plus. My house is currently on two layers of tile and thin tile would be my only option to tile it again.

This Simple $10 Kitchen Tool Changed My Cooking Game for Good

Fact: Not all kitchen utensils are created equal. I discovered that when I bought a $2 basting brush from a discount bin at my local grocery store a few years ago. It had a wooden handle, plastic bristles and was terrible at its job. A few days in, the handle snapped, and for weeks I gripped the portion just above the bristles to unevenly slather marinades (the smell refused to leave the bristles!) or apply butter to a baking dish. Within a month of its arrival, the hard-to-clean brush was tossed in the bin, and I eventually replaced it with OXO’s Silicone Basting Brush. And readers, it’s been a total game-changer!Get more news about Silicone Brush, you can vist our website!

Sure, there may be cheaper alternatives out there, but OXO’s basting brush is like the Ferrari of basting brushes, in it for the long haul. I have had mine for years and it still looks as good as new. The 10.7-inch long handle is ergonomically designed for incredibly easy gripping and features an angled tip that keeps marinade-coated bristles off my countertop when set down. A hole at the back of the brush lets me hang it on a hook (or in my case, these Command hooks) near my prep counter for easy access.

But it’s the silicone bristles that really make this basting brush so special. For starters, they’re layered to prevent clumping and have gaps in the center to retain liquid or sauces. This makes a huge difference when I’m trying to transfer sauces or glazes without creating a mess. It also helps with more delicate baking tasks, like applying egg wash to seal pastry dough or brushing milk on a bread loaf for that tender, golden crust. The bristles are also soft and flexible, picking up every last drop from a bowl. Once I’m done, I simply pop the brush in my dishwasher for easy cleaning.

The brush is heat resistant up to 600 degrees Fahrenheit, which is useful if, like me, you only remember to coat your veggies in olive oil after they’ve been roasting in the oven for over 10 minutes. The heat-resistant design also makes this tool a must-have for all my grilling sessions and pretty much all of my everyday cooking.

Honestly, I never thought something as simple as a basting brush can make such a huge difference in the kitchen, but upgrading to OXO has changed my cooking game for good.

All LED monitors are LCD monitors. But not all LCD monitors are LEDs. Kind of like all eagles are birds, but not all birds are eagles. While the names might be confusing to those wading through specs to find the best monitor, once you break it down it’s easier to understand than you think.
We’ll explain the tech and the naming conventions, and then highlight some HP monitors that might be the perfect fit for your needs. Let’s figure out exactly what LCD and LED monitors are and how to pick the right one for you.
Both types of displays use liquid crystals to help create an image. The difference is in the backlights. While a standard LCD monitor uses fluorescent backlights, an LED monitor uses light-emitting diodes for backlights. LED monitors usually have superior picture quality, but they come in varying backlight configurations. And some backlight configurations create better images than others.
Until 2014, plasma displays were the most commonly manufactured displays. But then the LCD took over. LCD stands for liquid crystal display. We’ll go over what that means in a minute. But first, it’s important to note that an LED also uses liquid crystals, so the name is somewhat misleading. Technically, an “LED monitor” should really go by the name, “LED LCD monitor.”
The key term here is “liquid crystal.” In high school, you might have been taught that there are three states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. But there are some substances that are actually a strange blend of different states. A liquid crystal is a substance that has properties of both a solid and a liquid. When you get to the upper tiers of science, you begin to discover that everything you once knew is wrong.
Pixels are the basic building blocks of a digital image. A pixel is a small dot that can emit colored light. Your display is composed of thousands of pixels, and they’re in a variety of different colors to give you your computer interface and the webpage that you’re currently reading. It works like a mosaic, but each individual piece is much less noticeable.
Every pixel is composed of two glass sheets, and the outermost sheet has the subpixels. The liquid crystals are sandwiched between the two sheets.
LCD monitors have backlights behind the screen that emit white light, and the light can’t pass through the liquid crystals while they’re in their liquid arrangement. But when the pixel is in use, the monitor applies an electric current to the liquid crystals, which then straighten out and allow light to pass through them [2].
Every pixel has three separate backlights which can shine through the red, blue, or green color filter – that’s how a pixel can emit a specific color.

Common ergonomic errors and solutions for dental hygienists

Editor's note: Read Stephanie Botts' recent article about ergonomics: Nearly 100% of hygienists have pain on the job. What can you do?Get more news about Ergonomic Dental, you can vist our website!

Ergonomics—people’s efficiency in their working environment—helps decrease muscle fatigue, increase productivity, and reduce the number and severity of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).1 The goal of ergonomics is to prevent soft tissue injuries and MSDs caused by sudden or sustained exposure to force, vibration, repetitive motion, and awkward posture.2

In the case of dental hygienists, this involves equipment placement and selection and evaluating their work habits to ensure proper ergonomics, neutral posture, and support of the body. Although practicing dental hygiene is ergonomically challenging, several common issues have relatively easy solutions that can significantly impact the care delivered and the level of pain or discomfort.Ergonomics is about honoring and respecting the body's unique capabilities and limitations and adjusting the workplace to support them. Most hygienists are provided a fixed operatory and a patient and they adjust their bodies to what is provided. This often leads to them holding static, awkward postures, bending, twisting, reaching, and performing repetitive motions during patient care.

When attempting to practice ergonomically, most hygienists need to adopt a radical change in mindset. They must put the health of their body first when entering the operatory and evaluating how they can adjust their provided workspace to support them.

Patient positioning
A common mistake by dental hygienists is not adjusting the patient chair or the patient depending on the area they’re treating. Taking the time to properly positionn the patient chair and patient will significantly reduce fatigue and pain. In addition, proper patient positioning will allow greater adoption of neutral posture and reduce harmful body movements, such as bending and twisting, that increase the likelihood of MSDs.

A patient's position will depend on which arch the hygienist is treating. When treating the maxillary arch, the patient chair should be fully supine, the headrest tilted back to encourage the chin to raise, and the height low enough to allow the hygienist’s elbows to bend at 90 degrees. The maxillary occlusal plane should be 10 to 20 degrees behind the vertical plane (figure 1 above). This angle is key to preventing leaning forward and it encourages neutral posture when the hygienist is seated at 12 o’clock.

If the mandibular arch is treated, the patient's chair back should be raised 20 to 30 degrees from the horizontal plane, which places them in a semi-supine position. The headrest should be tilted forward to encourage the chin to nod toward the chest, and the height of the patient chair should be lowered to allow the elbows to bend at 90 degrees. The mandibular plane of occlusion should be about 30 degrees elevated from the horizontal plane (figure 2).
