Yes. With the launch of Max, HBO Max has been folded into the new service.

Max is the new streaming service from Warner Bros. Discovery. It replaces HBO Max and incorporates some content from Discovery Plus to stand alone as a more robust subscription service.

Effectively just a rebranded HBO Max, the service offers on-demand access to a vast library of TV shows and movies. This includes Max.com/providers originals, titles from the Warner Bros. archive, HBO, Discovery, CNN, the CW, licensed TV shows and movies, and more.

Is Max the same as HBO Max?

While Max is mostly a repackaged version of HBO Max, there are a few differences. The library is a bit bigger, incorporating Discovery Plus content. HBO Max originals have now become Max originals, with new Max originals rolling out too.

What has happened to HBO Max?

All existing HBO Max subscribers can automatically get onto the new platform. As of May, the HBO Max app either automatically updates to Max or prompts you to download the Max app. Either way, if you had an HBO Max subscription, you are now a Max member at no extra cost.

If you get HBO as part of your cable or satellite TV package, you may get Max access at no additional cost. You can find out if your TV provider supports Max.

If you aren’t an HBO Max subscriber, you can now sign-up for the new service.

As reported earlier this month, Walmart’s streaming service Vudu has now arrived on Apple TV… with a few limitations. The new app allows you to watch the movies and shows saved to your Vudu library, including those you’ve added by way of UltraViolet, the digital video “cloud locker” technology that lets you watch digital versions of your DVDs and Blu-rays. However, like its iOS counterpart, the Apple TV version of Vudu doesn’t allow you to rent or buy videos through the app directly.

Instead, if you want to make a purchase, you have to do so through the browser or another device first. This same limitation is found in Vudu.com/start competitor, Amazon Video, which is currently only available on iOS, in terms of Apple device support outside the browser.

 

However, Apple and Amazon recently announced a détente of sorts, which will bring Amazon’s video app to Apple TV this year, increasing the competition for Vudu. Of course, it’s likely that Amazon will continue to limit purchases to the browser, as well, at that time.

The Movies on Us collection lets you watch thousands of titles for free, supported by ads. The Vudu app, meanwhile, offers a library of 100,000 titles, including many new releases. On the heels of the most-watched Premier League season ever in the U.S. last year, NBC Sports’ Premier League studio team of Rebecca Lowe, Robbie Earle, Robbie Mustoe, and Tim Howard will be in the U.K. for special on-site shows Friday-Sunday this weekend, including: at Old Trafford on Friday for Manchester United-Fulham (3 p.m. ET on USA Network and Universo), at London Stadium on Saturday for West Ham-Aston Villa (12:30 p.m. ET on NBC, Peacock and Universo), and at Stamford Bridge on Sunday for Chelsea-Manchester City (11:30 a.m. ET on NBC, Peacock and Telemundo).
