The SF Giants capped off a much-needed sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday with a dramatic 5-3 victory. Entering the series, San Francisco had lost seven-straight games and was 11 games back of the final National League wild-card spot. While the
Green Bay Packers Hats playoffs remain a longshot for the Giants, they were better than a team currently slated for the postseason in three straight games. The Giants turned to their ace Carlos Rodn to finish off the series while the Phillies started soft-throwing southpaw Ranger Surez. Surez worked around a first inning double by Wilmer Flores and Rodn stranded a pair of baserunners in the second, but neither team got a run on the scoreboard until the bottom of the fourth.J.D. Davis and Thairo Estrada worked back-to-back walks with one out to give the Giants their first baserunners since Flores' double. Without strikeout stuff, Surez had to pitch for a ground ball. Instead, LaMonte Wade Jr., Austin Wynns, and Bryce Johnson each knocked RBI singles. For Johnson, it was a particularly noteworthy single, marking his . While Wynns was thrown out trying to advance to third to end the inning on the play (another questionable baserunning decision by the Giants), Johnson still recorded his first career hit and RBI.Philadelphia looked on the cusp of a big inning in the top of the sixth inning. Rodn surrendered a lead-off double to Rhys Hoskins followed by a single to Alec Bohm to put runners on the corners with nobody out and the Phillies most dangerous hitters coming to the plate. Unlike Surez, though, Rodn had the overpowering stuff to get out of the jam. Despite having already thrown 90+ pitches, Rodn was throwing his fastball harder than he had all game, sitting from 98-100 mph. While he walked
Jace Sternberger Jersey J.T. Realmuto to load the bases, Rodn struck out Bryce Harper, Jean Segura, and Bryson Stott to end the rally. Rodn finished his 6 scorele s innings with 10 strikeouts, making him the third pitcher in the National League to eclipse 200 strikeouts this season. It was also Rodn's ninth game with double-digit punchouts this season, tying Ray Sadecki and Tim Lincecum for the most such games in an individual season. The day after Noah Syndergaard-the player Philadelphia opted to trade for at the
JJ Molson Jersey deadline instead of paying the Giants' asking price for Rodn- , Rodn gave Phillies management another reason to ponder if they should have done things differently.Scroll to ContinueRodn will almost a suredly opt out of the two-year, $44 million contract he signed with the Giants last offseason. He has easily been one of the most overpowering pitchers in MLB.The Giants have yet to sign a pitcher for more than $50 million under president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi. Barring a late-season injury, that will have to change if Rodn is going to be wearing a Giants uniform in 2023.While San Francisco's analytically inclined front office may be hesitant to make a large investment in Rodn, no one else on the roster has consistently electrified Oracle Park like him. In this melancholy Giants season, Rodn has always brought incredible energy. It's worth wondering if that could motivate the team to buck their recent trends.Besides, there are not many pitchers who can do this:Unfortunately for the Giants, John Brebbia did not have Rodn's magic working for him. Entering in the seventh inning, Brebbia surrendered a pair of singles to Alec Bohm and Harper before hanging a slider to Realmuto that he deposited in the
Lucas Patrick Jersey left-center field bleachers to even the game at 3-3.The Giants nearly retook the lead in the eighth. Estrada started a two-out rally off David Robertson with a single and Wade followed it up with a line shot off the right-field wall. Had Wade hit the ball a bit softer, or Phillies right fielder Nick Maton played the carom any le s perfectly, the Giants would have been leading. Instead, Estrada was forced to hold up at third, and Wade was held to a single.Robertson pitched around pinch-hitter Brandon Crawford to load the bases and gain a platoon advantage against pinch-hitter Evan Longoria, who he struck out on five pitches.Giants manager Gabe Kapler turned to closer Camilo Doval in the top of the ninth. He worked around
NFL Green Bay Packers Jersey a two-out single by Kyle Schwarber to keep things tied at 3 heading to the bottom of the ninth.Robertson started his second inning of work by walking Johnson, arguably the best baserunner in the Giants organization. Immediately in a high-stre s situation, Robertson struck out Gonzlez and Mike Yastrzemski to bring him one out away from forcing extra innings. However, Flores sent a first-pitch slider 363' down the left-field line for a walk-off two-run homer. The SF Giants are still just 64-68 and 8 games back of the Phillies for the final NL wild-card spot, but they finally have some positive momentum building once again. They will put that to the test tomorrow when they start a three-game series in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM Pacific.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. The past couple of nights with the Pittsburgh Pirates has been a lot of fun for the Tampa

A pair of wild walk-off wins will do that. The Rays won 4-3 in 10 innings on Friday on Harold Ramirez's game-winning single, and Isaac Paredes was the hero on Saturday when his two-out single in the ninth inning gave the Rays a 6-5 win.It was more interleague magic for the Rays, who have won nine straight games against National League foes this season. They're 9-1 overall heading into Sunday's game with the Pirates. It's obvious to see how important this succe s has been for the 39-32 Rays, because there's some simple math involved. Rays don't really make a big deal about differentiating opponents, outside of their American League East brethen, of course. So beating the Pirates is no different beating the Detroit Tigers or the Texas Rangers. Even during a league-wide lockout, questions of Gary Snchez's future with the Yankees endure.New York's backstop, once the , has experienced his fair share of highs and lows since his first true taste of the big leagues
Keelan Cole Jersey back in 2016.Snchez is a two-time All-Star with tremendous arm strength behind the dish and some elite pop at the plate when he's riding a hot streak. He's also coming off a disastrous pandemic-shortened season in 2020 and another disappointing campaign this past year, hitting just .187 with 185 strikeouts over 166 games in that span. The Yankees chose to earlier this offseason, even if he was a non-tender candidate. That doesn't mean Snchez is immune to trade rumors for the rest of this offseason, though. weighed
Wayne Chrebet Jersey in on Snchez's future in a roundtable this week, choosing the backstop as one Yankees player that could start the 2022 season with another club. Here's Adler's take on the situation:Gary Snchez is the ultimate fresh start candidate after a turbulent few years with the Yankees. He had a fairly good 2021 season until some regre sion hit toward the end of the year, but his tenure has been marked by inconsistency and frustration about his ups and downs as a player. The Yankees no longer seem sold on Snchez as their catcher of the future, and if they can find
Jason Pinnock Jersey another starting catcher option this winter, they seem ready to try someone new at the position. It certainly seems like New York is willing to move on from Snchez. at the end of this past season alone can tell that story. At this point, it comes down to whether or not the Yankees can find another a set that would be a worthy replacement at catcher.Scroll to ContinueThere are only a few catchers out there that could be on the move once the lockout ends. ? New York already mi sed the boat on some catchers like Jacob Stallings (traded from Pittsburgh to Miami), Tucker Barnhart (traded from the Reds to the Tigers) or Yan Gomes (who signed with Cubs). Kyle Higashioka is the only other big-league catcher currently on New York's 40-man roster.READ: Holding onto Snchez for another year seems like the most logical conclusion at this point. There are other positions that the Yankees need to addre s more than catcher (like shortstop or first base and center field) and whether you agree with it or not, Snchez still has the potential to put together a solid season, continuing to take steps forward on defense while returning to form in the

Either way, New York will need to make a decision on Snchez soon. The 29-year-old is under contract for just one more season. The 2021 MLB Trade Deadline is just over a week away.Toronto Blue Jays general manager Ro s Atkins this week the team will be looking to buy on July 30th. Several teams match up well with a number of the Blue Jays' biggest needs (Cubs, Pirates, Twins), but none more than the Texas Rangers. In discu sion with beat reporterChris Halicke, details
Roger Staubach Jersey of some potential deadline offers (and counter offers) between Texas and Toronto were hashed out. Packages included offers for outfielder Joey Gallo, starting pitcher Kyle Gibson, and reliever Ian Kennedy.Joey Gallo Offer(s):1) INF/OF Cavan Biggio (MLB) + INF Orelvis Martinez (A) for Gallo2) INF Jordan Groshans (AA) + RHP CJ Van Eyk (A+) for Gallo For arguably the most valuable hitting a set on deadline day, a 26-year-old defensively versatile hitter with plenty of control like Biggio and a rising top 100 prospect like Martinez seems like a bar-setting offer. If Texas has no interest in MLB a sets, Groshans isa clear top 100 guy who could be the core of a prospect-based offer, as he maybe displaced on a future Jays team with plenty of infield prospects.Gallo Counter Offer:OF Lourdes Gurriel Jr. (MLB) + INF Jordan Groshans (AA) or RHP Simeon Woods Richardson (AA) + INF Orelvis Martinez (A) forGallo + Kennedy This sounds like an ambitious counter-offer, but let me break it down.A contract extension with Joey Gallo is not off the table for the Rangers. In fact, its a real po sibility. Gallo has publicly stated a strong desire to remain in a Rangers uniform. Therefore, the Rangers need to be blown away by a trade package.Cavan Biggio would serve very little purpose for the Rangers short-term and long-term plans. While the Rangers dont have much impact talent in their farm system, they have a plethora of infield options that will start getting looks in the big leagues next season, including current No. 1 prospect Josh Jung, who also plays third base.Gurriel Jr. would help recoup the lo s of Gallo in the outfield while Groshans and Martinez give the Rangers two exciting prospects one who will see the big leagues soon and one who is still a few years away. The Rangers have also been interested in controllable a sets like Gurriel Jr. Gallo would upgrade the Blue Jays outfield for at least two playoff runs and Ian Kennedy would help sure up the bullpen for a run this season. The Rangers need to shoot high when teams
Roger Staubach T Shirts ask about Gallo. Plus, the Padres might be calling with an offer we cant refuse. The sticking point on this offer for the Blue Jays would be the inclusion of Orelvis Martinez alongside another top prospect. Moving Martinez, who has .941 OPS in Single-A, and one of SWR or Jordan Groshans would slash the top of Toronto's prospect depth for just 1.5 years of control. One of Groshans or Woods Richardson could certainly move in a deadline blockbuster but there isn't a player on the market that would warrant that kind of spending for a Toronto team still outside the playoffs.Though Toronto would likely rather move Randal Grichuk, it makes baseball sense to make Lourdes Gurriel Jr. available in talks for a multi-year batlike Gallo.Scroll to ContinueIf the Jays plan on making a big offensive splash this deadline, the general combination of MLB a sets and prospects to sed out would make a lot of
Leighton Vander Esch Jersey sense. But something like Gurriel Jr., Woods Richardson/Groshans, and Otto Lopez/Adam Kloffenstein may prove more palatable.Decision: Not this year.Kyle Gibson Offer:RHP Adam Kloffenstein (A+) + RHP Bowden Francis (AAA) It is difficult to find a comparable trade piece from the last few years to Gibson rarely do controllable starters in their mid-30s have a career year and find themselves on the block. Kloffenstein is a recent first-round pick, who is probably in the league-wide top 150-200 prospect range. Francis is a lower ceiling upper-minors arm who the Jays recently acquired in the Rowdy Tellez trade.Gibson Counter Offer:INF Orelvis Martinez (A) + P Thomas Hatch (MLB) for P Kyle Gibson + OF Julio Pablo Martinez The Blue Jays may feel this is too steep of an ask for a starting pitcher who is having a career year. Martinez is trending up and may not be available if Gibson was offered by himself. Ive attached Julio Pablo Martinez, who was the Rangers No. 2 prospect on Baseball America just two years ago, as a sweetener.Gibson is only owed $7 million next season, which makes him
Jaylon Smith Jersey valuable even if he reverts back to a mid- or back-of-the-rotation starter. The Rangers will be seeking prospects who could help give a jolt to their system, which is why Im asking for Martinez. Thomas Hatch is a controllable pitcher that could compete for innings in Arlington now, which is the type of players the Rangers have acquired in recent years. Martinez is one of the fastest rising prospects in Torontos system, but in a thin starting pitching market like this years, a player like Gibson will almost certainly take an organizational top-10 guy like him. If Martinez isn't untouchable, I think Torontos decision on this offer would come down to the valuation on Hatch. The team has been adamant about keeping Hatch as a starting pitching, only calling him up for the first time this season to make a since-rained-out spot start against the Red Sox. If the Blue Jays see Hatch as a guy with mid-rotation upside, they likely wont include him for a year and a bit of Gibson.Given that both the initial and counter offer here include a Top 10 Blue Jays prospect and an upper-minors starter, the offers dont seem that far from ironing out the details of a deal.Decision: Maybe there's a middle-ground prospect between Martinez and Kloffenstein (INF Miguel Hiraldo?), but no for now.Ian Kennedy Offer:RHP Patrick Murphy (MLB) + INF Tanner Morris (A+) for RP Ian Kennedy This is the type of trade that happens four to five times a deadline an expiring veteran late-inning reliever for fliers the acquiring organization likes. Murphy is a high-ranked guy on some prospect lists who the Jays have tried to shuttle between Triple-A and the MLB, but he hasn't latched onto leverage innings.Morris is the upside here, a fifth-round pick in 2019, the infielder is unranked on most Jays Top 30 prospect lists, but sits around the 40-50 range. In 59 A+ games this year he has a .809 OPS. While I dont nece sarily have a counter-offer for Kennedy, I cant imagine hell bring back a top 10 prospect from an organization like the Blue Jays, so Murphy seems like a reasonable get. It
Dallas Cowboys Women Jersey s all but certain Kennedy will be traded, so it will come down to which contender wants to pay the most for a veteran reliever.
I've noticed the number of fans who are calling forAndres Gimenez to get moved up in the Guardians' batting order. Of course, on the surface, it seems like an obvious decision. Gimenez is batting .297 slugging .475 and has 40 RBI this season. However, it may be a little more complicated than just that.If Gimenez were to get moved up in the order, the logical decision would be second. Jose Ramirez is not moving out of third, and Franmil Reyes and Josh Naylor have the power bats the team wants at fourth and fifth.Steven Kwan has been incredible as a lefthanded, leadoff hitter. But, Gimenez
Terry McLaurin Jersey is also a lefty. Why is this a big deal?A team that has
Ryan Kerrigan Jersey their first and second batters as lefties are giving the opposing pitching staffs and managers a huge advantage, especially later in games when the bullpen is being utilized. This could create plenty of bad matchups for both Kwan and Gimenez.Gimenez batting second would absolutelybe fine if Kwan wasn't leading off. But with how well Kwan has looked in that position, it's hard to see him getting moved out of it.One of Gimenez's calling cards this season is his ability to hit with runners in scoring position. He's been fabulous! In this situation, he is batting .377, slugging .768, and has an OPS of 1.206. He also has 37 RBI.But, if he were to get moved up in the lineup, he won't have as many of these opportunities. Think about it, in order to hit with RISP, you have to have RISP. Right now the four players hitting in front of him are a combination of Naylor, Reyes, Ramirez, and
NFL Washington Commanders Jersey Rosario. These are all players who have historically gotten on base at a pretty good rate.If he were to bat higher up in the order such as second, the player who could be in front of him is Kwan, then when the lineup turns over, a combination of Myles Straw, Austin Hedges /Luke Maile, Owen Miller, and po sibly Nolan Jones. These players haven't gotten on base as much
Jamin Davis Jersey this season, or in Jones' case, still a bit too early to tell.Gimenez has actually moved around in the order quite a bit. This season he's made appearances batting second, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth, and ninth. However, he has easily been the most succe sful batting in the sixth or seventh position.Gimenez is slashing .313/.398/.463 when batting sixth and is slashing .318/.357/.523 when batting seventh. He also has a combination of seven home runs and 33 RBI in this slot too.Scroll to ContinueClearly, Gimenez is comfortable in the order where he is. Confidence is key, especially with younger players. Own Miller started off the year red hot but hasn't looked the same since he moved into the cleanup role, and then moved out of it. I would hate for the same thing to happen to Gimenez too. Is it really worth the risk of moving him up a few more spots?-----Read More:---

On this day in 1995, a 20-year-old shortstop named Derek Jeter recorded his first Major League hit.Over the next two decades, Jeter would compile a total of 3,465 hits, sixth most in baseball history. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Jeter's first hit, Sports Illustrated's Inside The Pinstripes presents you with 25 of the most memorable hits of The Captain's illustrious career. From his first to his last, take a trip down memory land in chronological order to honor the Hall of Famer and one of the greatest to ever play this game.1. Hit No. 1 for No. 2After an 0-for-5 performance in his big-league debut the day prior, Jeter stroked a grounder through the left side of the infield for a single off Seattle's right-hander Tim Belcher.2. First RBI (off The Big Unit)Imagine facing Randy Johnson in just your third game suiting up at the Major League level. For Jeter's third career hit, the shortstop took a fastball from the lefty flamethrower and deposited it into right field for an RBI single, the first run batted in of his career. Johnson went on to win the American League Cy Young Award in '95 with a record of 18-2. He received a no decision in
Anthony Coyle Jersey this start, in part because of Jeter's two-out RBI.3. First hit at Yankee StadiumIt wasn't until Jeter's fifth game of his career that he gave Yankees fans an in-person sneak peek of what was to come. With the California Angels in town, Jeter ripped a ball into the left-field corner, scoring one run to give the Bombers an early 2-1 lead. As he reached second base on the double, it also marked the first extra base hit of Jeter's career in New York.4. First home run (on first Opening Day)Through his first 15 games in 1995, Jeter had yet to hit his first career home run. That changed on Opening Day the following spring. To lead off the top of the fifth in Cleveland, No. 2 turned on a pitch from righty Dennis Martinez, sending it into the left-field bleachers for his first big-league homer. He would go on to hit another 259 in his career in the regular season.5. Only regular season home run in extra inningsAcro s 2,747 regular season games, only did Derek Jeter homer in extra innings it just so happens that home runIn Kansas City, both starting pitchers had twirled nine shutout innings as the game transitioned into the 10th. With Joe Girardi on second, Jeter blasted a fly ball to straight away center field. The Royals center fielder Tom
Chris Wilcox Jersey Goodwin couldn't make the grab as the ball trickled back toward the infield. Jeter rounded the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park homer to give New York the lead.6. First career walk-off hitBy the end of his career, Jeter was known for his late-inning heroics and ability to come up big in the clutch. That began down the stretch in '96.Against the Boston Red Sox at Yankee Stadium, Jeter stepped up with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the 10th. The game was tied at 11.With two strikes, Jeter laced a single right back up the middle to secure the victory for the Bombers. Wade Boggs, another future Hall of Famer, scored on the play.7. Jeffrey Maier home runIn Game 1 of the 1996 ALCS, the Yankees were down 4-3 in the eighth inning to the Baltimore Orioles. With Armando Benitez on the mound, Jeter skied a fly ball to deep right, approaching Yankee Stadium's short porch. Right fielder Tony Tarrasco reached up to make the grab but a young fan Jeffrey Maier reached for the ball as it caromed off his glove and into the first row of the bleacher seats. Did Maier reach over the
Zaire Franklin Jersey wall? Perhaps a replay review would have changed the call. Either way, Jeter had his first postseason homer.8. All-Star Game MVPStarting at shortstop and hitting second in the 2000 All-Star Game, Jeter went 3-3, squaring up base hits off Randy Johnson, Kevin Brown and Al Leiter. Coincidentally, each of those three NL All-Star hurlers would eventually end up as Jeter's teammates in the Bronx.9. Leadoff homer in Subway SeriesOn the very first pitch of Game 4 of the 2000 World Series, Jeter went deep.No. 2 sent a fastball from Mets' starter Bobby Jones into the seats at Shea Stadium to give the Bombers an early lead, one they wouldn't relinquish. New York went on to win the World Series the next game, Jeter's fourth in a span of five seasons. He was recognized as the 2000 World Series MVP.10. Mr. November wins Game 4In a game that began on October 31, the clock had struck midnight by the time Jeter stepped into the box in the bottom of the tenth frame. With Diamondbacks' closer Byung-Hyun Kim on the mound, the shortstop belted a full-count pitch to the opposite field, clearing the short porch in right to give the Yankees a 4-3 win (and himself a new nickname).11. Only regular season walk-off home runJeter blasted only one walk-off home run in the regular season in his entire career and it came shortly after the 2005 campaign began. In the bottom of the 9th off Keith Foulke, Jeter went to the opposite field for a solo shot to clinch a 4-3 win over the rival
Tony Brown Jersey Red Sox.12. First and only grand slamAfter eclipsing the 10-year anniversary of his MLB debut, Jeter still had never hit a grand slam.In an interleague matchup with the Chicago Cubs at Yankee Stadium, Jeter delivered with the bases loaded. A no-doubt homer to the power alley in left-center field was his first grand slam of his career he would never accomplish the feat again.13. All-Star Game at Yankee StadiumIn front of the home crowd, in an emotional send-off to the cla sic Yankee Stadium, Jeter got on base in his first at-bat.Starting at shortstop and hitting second in the American League's order, Jeter looped a softly hit line drive to the right side of the infield. A tough hop had the ball evade the glove of second baseman Chase Utley, allowing The Captain to reach.Scroll to Continue14. Final hit in old Yankee StadiumJeter wound up with 1,274 hits in the old Yankee Stadium. It's only fitting that the final base hit of his tenure in The House That Ruth Built was a single to right field. Before going hitle s in the Yankees final two contests at Yankee Stadium in 2008, Jeter grounded a base knock through the right side in the bottom of the fifth of a 3-2 Yankees victory.15. Jeter pa ses Lou GehrigWith Jeter's 2,722nd hit, The Captain pa sed all-time Yankees great Lou Gehrig on the leaderboard for the most hits in franchise history.
