The second week of the NFL season was like the Red Wedding from "Game of Thrones." We shouldve heard the Rains of Castamere coming whenNick BosaandParris Campbellwent down early, and then it was all downhill when Saquon Barkley got hurt. That was basically Robb Darius Slayton Jersey Starks offing. Try to remain optimistic if you got bit by the injury bug. Most fantasy football owners did. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, well breathe new life into your fantasy team heading into Week 3. There are plenty of options on waiver wires this week (Darrell Henderson, Mike Davis, Jerick McKinnon, Devonta Freeman, etc.), but, hey, we thought there were some solid pickups last week, too. Hopefully if your waivers run through FAAB, you followed my projected bid suggestions and got outbid by other owners, especially onMalcolm Brown. But we should ask ourselves how desperate are we heading into waiver claims? Like you, I lost Christian McCaffrey in two leagues and I lostSaquon Barkley in another. If youre in a league where you skated by, maybe you let other owners who are desperate enough to wipe out their FAAB budget on the chalky adds this week. If you are in need of running back help, then youll need to make a run at one or two guys listed below. Again, were only in Week 3. This is why running back depth is so important, and well look to bolster our rosters and salvage our seasons.DOMINATE YOUR LEAGUE: ! As we'll do every week this season, we'll break down the top pickups and project how much of your FAAB budget you should bid on them.Week 3Fantasy Football FAAB targets: Waiver wire QB pickupsGardner Minshew(JAX). This is now the third straight week that Minshew has made the waiver column, and his ownership on ESPN has hardly budged. I get it -- you probably have Lorenzo Carter Jersey a quarterback youre more comfortable starting. But given what weve seen and how competitive the Jaguars have been through two games, here are players Im starting Minshew over:Carson Wentz,Matthew Stafford,Tom Brady,Jared Goff,Daniel Jones,Derek Carr, andPhilip Rivers. I could keep naming worse quarterbacks, but Minshew has at least 20 points in four-point per pa sing touchdown leagues so far in both weeks. Game flow will somehow always be in there favor whether its for garbage time or theyre actually in it to win it. You cant really ever seen them running away with a game easily in hand. Mineshew's 80-percentavailability is just simply laughable. Proj.FAAB Bid: 8-10% (Try not to go crazy with FAAB for QBs, even this bid is high)Ryan Tannehill(TEN). Tannehill has done nothing but provide a solid floor for the Titans ever since he took over as the starting quarterback. He hasnt topped 250 pa sing yards yet on the year, but he has six touchdowns and zero interceptions. He seems to be clicking with all his pa s-catching options (save forA.J. Brown). The Titans have an encouraging matchup in Week 3 against the Vikings before three straight home games against Pittsburgh, Buffalo, and Houston. He might only sit on your bench as a backup, but if youre lacking confidence in your starting quarterback, Tannehill is presenting a nice floor each week. Proj.FAAB Bid: 6%WEEK 3 PPR RANKINGS: | | | | | Week 3Fantasy Football FAAB targets: Waiver wire RB pickupsDarrell Henderson(LAR). Henderson is my favorite waiver wire target heading into Week 3. He took advantage of Cam Akershurting his ribsandMalcolm Browninjuring his finger. The Rams ran 69 offensive plays, and Henderson was on the field for just 29 of those, but he touched the ball 14 times. That is a very high efficiency rate, especially when you see what he did once given the opportunity to have the ball in his hands. He is the reason Sterling Shepard Jersey I only recommended you spend 12 percentof your FAAB budget onBrown. Long-term, I think Akers is someone they want to give the ball, but lets remember Henderson was a third-round pick in 2019 while Akers was a second-round pick this year, and Henderson never received a legitimate shot to show what he can do. They have options in the backfield, but with the injuries to Akers and Brown, Henderson has an opportunity to really carve out a solid role for himself. Proj. FAAB Bid: 30-40% New York Giants Jersey (Yes, Im that high on him)Mike Davis(CAR).Daviswill be the favorite add of most fantasy owners this weekbut not for me. If youre a Christian McCaffrey(ankle) owner you might prioritize him based on what he did when CMC went down. He caught all eight of his targets for 74 yards. Hes also been declared as the guy with McCaffrey sidelined for the next four-to-six weeks. But the game script also called for him to be targeted eight times. The Panthers were trying to rally and stay in the game, so there was more tempo and rhythm to the offense. The offensive line is still pretty bad; even McCaffrey averaged just 3.8 yards per carry through two games, and defenses likely arent respecting the run now. Hell need the game flow, which is po sible because Carolina will play from behind plenty of times. I just dont have a great feeling about this guy being one of the top waiver adds this week, but if you absolutely want him youll have to pay up. Proj. FAAB Bid: 25-30%New York Giants Backfield. We have an opportunity to lump a few names together here. Im not excited about any of them to be honest. It comes down toWayne GallmanandDion Lewis, with the po sibility the Giants signDevonta Freeman.Hes given other teams the number he wants and nobody has matched it, so your gue s is as good as mine. The lo s of Saquon Barkley (knee) hurts, but even in preseason drafts I didnt think it was worth cuffing Gallman or Lewis simply because the production for them would pale in comparison to Barkley. What youre paying for here is the opportunity. I prefer Lewis slightly over Gallman especially in PPR formats, but Gallman will get carries. The G-Men will play from behind plenty and have to throw the ball around, and Lewis is a great pa s-catching option out of the backfield. This offensive line is still awful, though, and even Barkley was struggling to generate rhythm and positive production. Defenses wont have to account for him anymore. Even if they sign Freeman, that doesnt move the needle for me. A guy who has mi sed 18 games the last three seasonswho didnt look good last year and probably doesnt perform well out of the gate in a year where were seeing more soft ti sue injuries than normal Aldrick Rosas Jersey --that just does nothing for me. Im not spending a dime on this backfieldunle s theyre the only options out there. Proj. FAAB Bid: 15-25%UPDATE:The Giants have agreed
Kirk Cousins is making family bread in 2021.The Vikings quarterback cashed Jerome Brown Jersey in on a big-money deal in 2018, signing an NFL first fully guaranteed contract, which turned out to be le s of an indicator of the future of NFL busine s.Cousins has delivered more good than bad results since signing that deal: While with Minnesota, Cousins has thrown 116 touchdowns to 32 interceptions, but a slightly disappointed 30-28-1 record as start to go with those numbers.MORE: Now, Cousins' contract remains something of an anomaly acro s the league, even though he set a very interesting precedent in his deal. Since then, quarterbacks have gotten paid more than Cousins, but not quite with the machinations of what he's got on paper. Here's everything you need to know about Cousins' contract:How much does Kirk Cousins make?Cousins signed acontract extension in March 2020, keeping him pinned in Minnesota through the end of the 2022 season. The contract Cousins signed was worth $66 million total over two years.Average annual salary : $33million2021base salary: $21millionTotal contract value: $150million (2018 and 2020 contracts combined)Fully guaranteed : $150millionCousins signed Brian Westbrook Jersey with the Vikings prior to the start of the 2018 NFL season after spending the first six years of his career with Washington. How far will Aaron Rodgers' holdout go?Rodgers did not attend Green Bay's three-day minicamp this week, which means the three-time MVP is considered a holdout. This will cost Rodgers le s than unle sthe Packers waive those costs. Now, the next date to watch is July 27. That's when the Packers open mandatory training camp ahead of the 2021 NFL season. If Rodgers still is holding out at that point, then the rift with Green Bay president Mark Murphy and Alexandre Fortin Jersey general manager Brian Gutekunst might reach a tipping point. It would be the with the Cowboys in 1993.MORE: This is different, however. Rodgers is a quarterback. The last quarterback to sit out a full season was Kelly Stouffer, who could not agree to a contract with the Cardinals after being selected in the first round in 1987. Again, though, this isn't the same situation. But there are parallels with the rift former No. 1 pick Carson Palmer had with the Bengals in 2011. Palmer was eventually traded to Oakland during the season, but not until after a me sy divorce with the Bengals. And yes, was also Palmer's agent. Will Rodgers and the Packers come to the same conclusion? Perhaps. But there are major differences between the two holdouts, and those need to be addre sed.State of the franchiseThe Bengals finished 4-12 in Palmer's seventh season in 2010, and he finished with 3,970 yards, 26 TDs and 20 interceptions. "Palmer had a meeting with Bengals owner Mike Brown to request for a separation from the team, coupled with a threat to retire if that demand was not met,".A decade later, Rodgers addre sed his future after the Packers lost the second of back-to-back NFC championship games to Tampa Bay on Jan. 19, 2020. He called his situation with the Packers a which continued the ongoing speculation about his future in Green Bay despite a 26-6 regular-season record with Matt LaFleur as head coach. Is this different? Yes and no Tony Esposito Jersey . Green Bay is a Super Bowl-caliber team, and Rodgers has kept them in the hunt for 16 seasons. Palmer and the Bengals were an up-and-down team that did not advance past the AFC Wild Card round. But clearly the i sues that led to the discontent of both quarterbacks didn't happen overnight. The next quarterbackPalmer's demands led Cincinnati to draft Andy Dalton with the No. 35 pick in the 2011NFL Draft. Dalton led TCU to a 13-0 record that included a Mountain West Conference championship and a Rose Bowl victory against Wisconsin the previous season. He served as an insurance policy of sorts in case Palmer would not return. The Packers already created their problem by trading up to draft Jordan Love with the No. 26 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Love also played in the Mountain West Conference at Utah State. He led the Aggies to an 11-2 record in 2018, but that record dipped to 7-6 with a new coaching staff the following season. Green Bay drafted Love instead of adding another more immediate piece to a returning NFC championship team.Is this different? Yes. Cincinnati made the move as a reaction to Palmers discontent. Green Bay created the discontent by trading up to add a quarterback to a roster that was ready-made to contend for a Super Bowl. That opened the door for criticism that hasnt stopped since.Trade talksAccording to Cincinnati.com, reports that Palmer said he would never step foot in Paul Brown Stadium surfaced in March. Bengals owner Mike Brown publicly said after the NFL lockout that offseason that Palmer would not be traded. Brown doubled down at training camp in July, telling reporters, I wish him well and he has retired. That is his choice. Brown followed through on that, and the team placed Palmer on the did not report list ahead of the 2011 season.Rodgers has not directly said he would not play for the Packers in 2021, but ESPN insider Adam Schefters report that the quarterback is disgruntled and wants out overshadowed the first Anton Forsberg Jersey round of the 2021 NFL Draft on April 29. Murphy and Gutekunst have repeatedly expre sed that Rodgers will not be traded ahead of the 2021 season, but the situation is in 2008. Favre was traded to the Jets that season. Now, the question becomes whether Rodgers reports for training camp in July. That will be the focus over the next six Gustav Forsling Jersey weeks. Is this different? The situations are similar, even if Rodgers hasnt publicly asked for a trade. Both quarterbacks play for old-school ownership, and Green Bay could follow the same path as Cincinnati if there isnt a fence-mending with Rodgers. The regular seasonThe Bengals opened the 2011 season with a 4-2 record through the bye week with Dalton at quarterback, and that prompted Brown to trade Palmer to the Raiders on Oct. 18, 2011. Cincinnati went on to a 9-7 record and reached the AFC Wild Card round. This is the potential next step for the Packers if Rodgers holdout stretches into the season. Love would be the potential Week 1 starter against New Orleans despite not taking a snap in 2020. Thats a risky move considering that most of the Packers roster from those past two NFC championship runs remains on board. If Rodgers holdout drags on through training camp, it will get more attention than the circus with Favre in 2008.Is this different? The worst-case scenario for the Packers could be catastrophic. The franchise would watch back-to-back Hall of Fame quarterbacks leave in unceremonious fashion, and Rodgers situation already has divided the fan base in a similar way. Because Palmer had not played well in 2020, it was easier for Cincinnati fans to turn toward Dalton. Love would face way more pre sure in Green Bay if he is the starter, which isnt a sure thing at this point given the lack of experience.Long-term implicationsDalton had a 70-61-2 record in nine seasons with the Bengals, and he led the franchise to five playoff appearances. Cincinnati did not win any of those games, and the franchise moved on last season by drafting Joe Burrow with the No. 1 pick. Palmer had a 44-37-1 record in seven seasons with Oakland and Arizona after leaving Cincinnati, and his lone postseason victory for his career came against the Packers in 2016.The Packers would be banking on yet another stroke of luck. Rodgers first season was bumpy as a starter, but he turned out to be a more efficient Favre. Thats led to a 12-9 postseason record and Jonathan Toews Jersey a Super Bowl 45 victory. Love would be tasked with living up to impo sible expectations, but the same will be true of whoever takes the snapsafter Rodgers leaves Green Bay, which looks like it will happen even if its not during the 2020 season. Is this different? The parallels with the Palmer situation are there, especially if Rodgers holds out, but the stakes are much higher in Green Bay. The Packers' situation remains TBD, and July will be very interesting if Rodgers does not show up.

Allen Lazard looked to be on his way to a breakout season, but after a six-catch, 146-yard gamein Week 3, Lazard was placed on IR and proceeded to mi s the Packers' next four games. Now, he is unofficially "questionable" ahead of a Thursday Night Football matchup against the 49ers. Lazard's potential return will have a big impact on fantasy football owners, Jonathan Bullard Jersey as he's a legitimate WR3 when active. His status will surely factor into some key start 'em, sit 'em calls for Week 9.We'll be here providing the latest news below about Lazard right up until the active/inactive report is released at around 6:50 p.m. ET on Thursday. For more fantasy news, follow us on Twitter .MORE TNF: | | Is Allen Lazard playing Thursday night?UPDATE 2:According to , Lazard won't be activated by the Packers for this game. Instead, the team will wait until Week 10 to see if he's ready to suit up against the Jaguars.UPDATE:Lazard that he's on the team Roquan Smith Jersey flight to San Francisco, though that doesn't nece sarily mean he'll play.Last week, Lazard (core) returned to practice for the Packers on Wednesday and Thursday. While the team didn't list him on the injury report -- they don't have to since he is still on IR -- his return last Wednesday opened a 21-day practice window for him to be reactivated. So, Lazard's return will have to happen in either Week 9 or Week 10 if he is to return this season.Given how conservative the Packers' medical staff has been this season nursing injuries for offensive stars like William Perry Jersey Aaron Jones and Davante Adams, they could try to give Lazard as long as po sible to ramp up in practice before returning him to the field. As such, it's not a given that he will suit up on Thursday night.MORE TNF INJURIES: | The biggest indicator of whether or not Lazard will play will come at 4 p.m. ET on game day. The Packers will have to activate him from IR by that point if they want to play him. That doesn't guarantee that he would return to the field. The Packers could activate him, put him through Eddie Goldman Jersey pregame warmups, and still decide to render him inactive if they feel he needs a little more time to recover. It would be more likely that they would just keep him on IR in that case, but that is a po sibility. If Lazard is active, he would be a boom-or-bust WR3/flex against a decent 49ers pa s defense. Given that it would be his first game back and he could receiver limited snaps, he's probably best left on your bench for at least one week, but with no other Packers receiver stepping up in Lazard's absence, he could easily see five-plus targets. If Lazard can't play, Marquez Valdes-Scantling would continue to serve as the second WR acro s from Davante Adams, but the Packers would likely mix in the likes of Equanimeous St. Brown and Darrius Shepherd as they have in recent Adam Shaheen Jersey weeks. Aaron Rodgers could also just funnel more targets to Adams and TE Robert Tonyan, however, so it's hard to trust any of the non-Adams Packers receivers if Lazard is out.
Sam Darnold entered the 2021 NFL season with a near certainty that he would be the starting quarterback for the Panthers. Not only does he not have the same certainty in 2022, he is not even considered the favorite to do it again.Following Carolina's acquisition of Baker Mayfield from the Browns, Darnold and Mayfield are expected to have a competition for the starting position, with Mayfield considered the frontrunner given the past succe s he's had in the NFL.But Darnold, speaking for the first time since the trade, has said he's not Chris Lykes Jersey worried about the competition, and, in fact, he's looking forward to the opportunity to compete with Mayfield."Me and Baker are cool. You know I'm sure competing and when things start rolling in training camp, it's just gonna be fun," Darnold said. "We're going to be able to compete and have fun with it, but at the end of the day, this is a busine s and we both take our craft and what we do every seriously so it's gonna be very serious when that time comes to compete, but off the field and all that stuff, me and Baker are really cool."MORE: Players Ed Reed Jersey and coaches at the Panthers' first day of training camp at Wofford College spoke about how the two have already begun to get along despite the competition."They're not gonna let it hinder they friendship, whatever they may have going on, like they knew each other so it's going to be a good battle because you never know it's never bad blood whoever wins at the end of the day," wide receiver D.J. Moore said. But Darnold said ahead of the competition, both view themselves as the starter."In our eyes, we're both the starting quarterback for this team right now and that's how we're both going to view it.MORE: During his redshirt freshman season at USC, Darnold lost a quarterback competition with Max Browne out of the gate. However, in the fourth game, he supplanted Browne as the starter and didn't relinquish the position until he was drafted third overall by the Jets in 2018.Darnold said from that competition, he learned he needs to stay constant and consistent in his attitude and do what he can on Dejan Vasiljevic Jersey the field."Even if I wasn't competing, if this is my job going into camp, that's how I would treat it," Darnold said. "You always got to remain that constant guy for the team and consistent and you just gotta continue to have that consistency on the field."MORE: When asked if he was hurt by the decision to bring in a new quarterback, Darnold said it isn't his job to understand or evaluate the decisions made by the front office, and that if they thought having the two quarterbacks in the same room would improve the team, than that was the best thing for the team. So, how will the decision be made?"To me, my job is not to pick the starting quarterback. The players will do that with the way they play," Rhule said the (). "My job is to make sure that we have really good players in the room, which we do, and make sure that they have opportunities. So it'll be a fun ride and when we know we'll know."Why did the Panthers trade for Baker Mayfield? The Panthers had been linked as a po sible trade destination for Mayfield since he requested a trade from the Browns, but it wasn't until after OTAs that a deal was finally completed.Rhule explained it had Braxton Berrios Jersey been an ongoing conversation with Fitterer throughout the offseason, and that the team was happy with Darnold's performance in the spring and at OTAs, but that eventually, trading for Mayfield felt like the right move."There was a time that wasn't sure if it was going to happen, but when the time came, at the end of the day, we felt like it was the right thing for the team and we did it," Rhule said.Rhule said he likes the quarterback room with Mayfield, Darnold, Matt Corral and P.J. Walker, and said he thinks the quarterback competition between the four will be good Kameron McGusty Jersey for the team.Darnold was asked whether he considered requesting a trade after the deal for Mayfield was made, to which he said he had not."First of all, I'm not in a position to be able to do that, and then that's just not who I am," Darnold said. So, the Panthers will roll with four players in the QB room and may the best man win."Not many teams have four quality players like that and it's going to be a lot of great competition," Rhule said.
