Christmas Day has always been a traditional date in the NBA calendar, since the first game to be played on the 25th in 1947. What’s more, it is one of their most important dates, for the huge amount of money that it generates.
Five big games on Christmas Day
On the 25th, it tends to be important, big matches that are scheduled - competitive games that the public want to watch. It’s a day that has always featured the best players in history: LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Tim Duncan... And this year it couldn’t be any different. From early afternoon until late at night on Monday, December 25, five highly attractive games will be played. The action tips off at midday at Madison Square Garden in New York City where the Knicks will take on the Bucks. All of the Christmas Day games are attractive but perhaps top of the bill is the 5pm clash between leaders Boston and the Lakers in Los Angeles. Luka Doncic’s Mavs bring it to a close when they face the Suns in Phoenix on Monday night.

The Denver Nuggets are back on track winning four of their last five games as they face off against the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night. The Nuggets' only loss in that span was a one-point back-and-forth epic game against the Oklahoma City Thunder where Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored the game-winner with just one second remaining. The Nuggets are going for their third straight win after beating the Toronto Raptors 113-104 win on Wednesday. Denver has a busy weekend ahead culminating in a marquee matchup with Golden State at home on Christmas day. The win against Toronto brought the Nuggets back to .500 on the road and 19-10 overall. It was the usual suspects in the win over the Raptors as Nikola Jokic scored 31 points and added 15 rebounds. It was a big game for Jamal Murray visiting his home country as he scored 20 points and it was somehow his first regular season game in Canada. This game against Brooklyn is one of three games for the Nuggets through the Christmas holiday.

The Nets meanwhile are trending in a different direction than Denver as they are trying to stop a four-game losing streak. This streak all started last week in Denver when the Nuggets won handily 124-101. The Nets are hoping that homecourt advantage makes this game more competitive. Brooklyn is coming off a 121-102 loss on Wednesday against their New York City brethren. It was the Knicks' first win over the Nets in Brooklyn in four years. With a win tonight, Brooklyn can get back to .500 on the season.
